We are on a constant journey to create a more sustainable world. But what if the best way to do that is to work with nature? The answer may lie beneath our feet.
Adidas has unveiled the Stan Smith Mylo ™, made from mycelial leather, thus taking a big step towards producing products from a sustainable form of alternative leather. Mycelium is a fiber structure used by fungi to grow underground. The fruits of mycelium are the mushrooms known to all of us.
Mylo material, made by Bolt Threads in 2018, from mycelium layers which developed over a period of about 2 weeks, and then dried and painted. Rotten leaves, water and air were used to create the mycelium. Its production requires less soil and resources (water, food, etc.) than those of livestock, while it also contributes effectively to reducing the greenhouse effect. Mylo can have any color and texture.
According to Adidas, the Stan Smith Mylo ™ will be commercially available in the near future.
